GroundControl – A FREE Virtual Audio Driver for Mac

GroundControl - A FREE Virtual Audio Driver for Mac

Ginger Audio has released “GroundControl”, a streamlined, virtual audio driver for Mac OS.

This simple, yet incredibly effective device allows you to seamlessly pass audio from one application to another with zero latency. You can also pass your system sound to various applications within the GroundControl interface.

On top of that, it’s completely free! Click here to check it out.

It features 3 virtual audio drivers (2, 16 and 64 channels), at sample rates up to 192 kHz. It also works on the latest Mac models, including the M1 processor and macOS Big Sur. The program is currently Mac only, but the developers say a Windows version is in the works.

The installation process is extremely fast and straight-forward. Once the .pkg file is installed, setting up the driver is also a quick and intuitive process (as explained here). To stream audio between two applications, it’s as simple as setting the output of one application as GroundControl and the input of the second application as GroundControl.

The GroundControl Cube app then allows you to monitor the audio stream through your computer’s internal speakers, headphones, or via an audio interface.

The app has a large, central control for output volume, in/out and peak meters to catch any potential clipping, as well as dim, mute and mono options.

This free virtual audio driver would be incredibly useful for a range of audio requirements, from audio engineers to podcasters and streamers. It has a no-nonsense, intuitive design allowing you to instantly hook up your various audio inputs and monitor them all inside a single app.

GroundControl is free to download. It requires macOS 10.13–10.15.7 or macOS 11 Big Sur and supports Intel and M1 processors.
