Chowdhury DSP Releases Chow Kick – A FREE Bass Drum Synthesizer
In my opinion, Chowdhury DSP are one of the most underrated plugin development companies out there.
We’ve been raving about their highly unique delay plugin ChowMatrix since it’s release, an infinitely growable delay effect, with complex internal modulation and feedback.
Plus, their plugins are all completely free and open-source, which is hard to believe given their novelty and level of creative versatility.
Chowdhury DSP have now released Chow Kick, a free kick modeling synth plugin.
Chow Kick is a kick drum synthesizer based on creative physical modelling of old drum machine circuits. Along with a highly parameterizable pulse shaper, Chow Kick uses a resonant filter with several nonlinear modes, creating a wide range of possibilities for sound designers.
The kick drum can also be easily “tuned” with incoming MIDI notes to match the key of your song!
ChowKick contains two main signal processing sections: a Pulse Shaper which generates a synthetic pulse whenever the kick drum is triggered, and a Resonant Filter that creates the kick drum sound when driven by the pulse. You can also control the number of voices, change resonance modes between Linear, Basic, and Bouncy, and several other cool on-board features.
I’d highly recommend this plugin to any producers getting bored of generic, repetitive kick drum sample packs. Creating your own unique kick sound gives you much more creative control over the sound, and using Chow Kick it’s also a ton of fun.
