Ultimate List of FREE Ambient Sample Packs in 2022
If you’re a beginner to ambient music production, or a more experienced ambient producer, at some point you’ll probably find yourself searching high and low for the best free ambient sample packs out there.
There is a huge range of paid ambient sample packs online for a range of budgets. However, if you’re looking to build a larger ambient sample library, purchasing several commercial sample packs can get expensive.
Finding high quality FREE ambient sample packs is a little more difficult. Most sample curators simply don’t want to give away their beloved samples for free.
However, there are a decent amount of incredible, diverse free packs out there, if you know where to look.
To save you the hassle, I’ve created this list of the best free ambient sample packs out there in 2022, from a range of sources. Some of these I’ve downloaded in the past for my personal tracks, whilst others I’ve scouted out specifically to create this resource. Enjoy!
SampleRadar: 382 free ambient samples
SampleRadar have an impressive collection of free sample packs, ranging from rock music to dancehall. I’ve definitely found a few hidden gems in their packs, particularly the instrumental pads, synths and Rhodes samples.
Sampleradar have kindly released this pack of 382 24-bit WAV ambient samples completely for free. No signups, follow requests, nothing.
This free ambient sample pack is split into two construction kits at different tempos (80 and 120bpm). These contain arpeggiated synth, bass, drum, pad, Rhodes, guitar and various other loops. All the sounds are also 100% royalty free. Enjoy!

Rhythm Lab – Vintage Pads and Textures
If you’re wanting to integrate vintage sampled sounds into your ambient production, this free sample pack from Rhythm Lab is a great place to start.
This sample pack contains 76 pad & texture sounds from various vintage gear including Emu Orbit 2000, Emu Morpheus, Korg MS2000, Korg Z1, Korg 01/W, Roland Juno 106, Roland JX-8P, Yamaha CS15.
All samples are WAV format, 24 bit, 44100 and stereo. There is also no sign-up for this pack. Definitely worth checking out.

Recently, I featured this sample pack in our best FREE lofi sample packs of 2022, but it also fits perfectly here.
Foley and atmospheric soundbeds are an integral part of ambient music, and they are a great way to enhance the texture and atmosphere of a track.
This pack from HelloSamples contains 352 raw, organic sounds made from various instruments and objects.
This free sample pack was apparently recorded in a “little recording studio lost in the woods isolated from the noises and rhythms of the city”. It contains a wonderful selection of sounds, including a classic old custom drum kit, natural wood/forest noises, bay leaf sounds, broken tree branches, foot step textures, water drum sounds, pen and paper writing noises and more.

Samplephonics / Noizz samples
Samplephonics has a fantastic selection of free ambient sample packs, from textured electronica to processed dreampop samples. All the freebies on this site are “taster packs” of the full versions, so they are tiny in size. However, the sound quality of these samples is absolutely sublime.
All these samples are WAV format and 100% royalty free!

Sounds Of Life – Ocean Swift Synthesis

This free pack is a “different and more experimental sample pack containing field recordings of everyday sounds in raw form, and transformations of these raw sounds into musical bits, chords, drums, atmospheres and effects.”
Ocean Swift Synthesis contains some really weird and wonderful sounds, and many of these field recordings have been manipulated in some highly creative ways to create musical samples. I’d highly recommend this pack to ambient music producers who like to think outside the box, and want to create music using some unique, innovative source material.
This pack also contains some percussive glitches, voice glitches and many other hidden gems.
Launch – Chill & Ambient Sample Pack
This free sample pack offers an excellent selection of ambient guitar loops, piano loops, vocal loops, ambient textures and drum sounds.
As is the case with a lot of free sample packs, it’s a pretty small sample pack, but definitely contains enough sounds for some ambient sonic inspiration.

If you’re really wanting to mix things up, Space Divers Mini is a truly unique free sample pack packed with incredible space and underwater exploration sounds. These sounds could really add an immersive sci-fi element to your ambient tracks.
Space Divers Mini contains enough sounds to create a simple story of a scuba diver or an astronaut. These samples represent the basic SFX categories such as impacts, underwater moves, breathing, vehicle resonance, vehicle noises, and gear manipulation.
The sound design quality of this sample pack is absolutely stunning.
99Sounds – Garage Foley
• Field recordings that were captured in a garage

The sound library was created from field recordings that were captured in a garage, with minimal additional processing applied. These are, for the most part, recordings of various objects and tools being hit, with audible natural reverb in the background.
Percussive foley sounds like these are perfect for building organic sounding rhythms and layering over existing drum tracks. Definitely worth checking this one out.
