SuperflyDSP Releases Flying Delay – A FREE Analog Delay Plugin
Flying Delay is a FREE analog-modelled echo plugin by SuperflyDSP available in VST3 and AU format for Windows, Mac and Linux.
This delay plugin is heavily inspired by vintage analog tape delay hardware, but with a clean, modern digital interface. The plugin features basic delay controls with low/high-pass parameters and a ping-pong delay option.
In the words of SuperflyDSP;
The delay allows you to repeat the input signal periodically like an echo. It can be used subtly or intensively on different instruments (like guitar, vocals or keyboards.). It can simulate a very short reverb (50ms) or echo until five second.
Flying Delay has a sharp, simple GUI and a resizable user interface. As you’d expect, you can adjust the decay time and delay time using the two main knobs.
This plugin adds saturation and coloration to the echo signal, in order to recreate that vintage analog tape effect. I found this plugin gave the best results when added to guitar, synth leads and piano.
Flying Delay doesn’t have that many controls to play around with, so there isn’t a huge amount of sonic flexibility here. However, this plugin is definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for incredibly low-CPU, simple tape delay sounds.
So, how does it compare with other similar free delay plugins? Flying Delay can be compared with GSi’s VariSpeed released last month, a FREE Copicat IC400 tape delay plugin. This Copicat IC400 Tape Delay emulation is capable of some really warm, authentic analog-esque tones, and definitely offers a lot more control over your delay sound. However, I’d say it’s noticeably heavier on CPU than Flying Delay, so it really depends on your priorities.
